Medicine Story Builder
Most pre-med students say “I want to help people.” That answer won't carry you through organic chemistry at midnight. This guided conversation helps you find the real reason, the one that will.
How It Works
Start Broad
Answer one open-ended question about what draws you to medicine. No wrong answers.
Go Deeper
Follow-up questions help you move past surface answers to the values and experiences underneath.
Get Your Story
Receive a personalized narrative framework: your core theme, key experiences, and the seed of a personal statement.
The Psychology Behind It
This tool uses techniques from three well-established research traditions. The 5 Whys technique, originally developed for root cause analysis, helps move from surface statements to core values. Motivational interviewing (Miller & Rollnick) provides the conversational structure: open questions, reflection, and affirmation. And narrative identity theory (McAdams) shows that people who construct coherent life stories with themes of personal agency report greater clarity and well-being.
The result is not a personality type or a score. It is a story you own, built from your actual experiences and values.
